CONEY ISLAND BOWERY

Acrylic/canvas

  30x24”

2009

Early in the development of Coney Island as an entertainment center of the Brighton Beach shore, years before the Boardwalk was built, the “entertainment” in some parts  was more adult than others.  The Bowery(not to confused with the NYC bowery) was such a place. Dance Halls, Beer Joints, and  hotels of various sorts were the predominant  commerce of this slightly sleazy area. As time progressed the nature of the Bowery changed and family amusement took over.
